Wine & Soul
Wine and Soul started in 2001 as the life's work of Sandra Tavares da Silva and Jorge Serôdio Borges, both winemakers and then newlyweds. They were determined to make high-level wine and almost immediately succeeded in gaining international recognition for their wine.
They then made their first red wine 'Pintas' with grapes from a now 100-year-old vineyard in the Pinhão Valley (Vale de Mendiz). This plot, with its southern orientation, is ideally situated to produce the powerful, intense style of wine that Sandra and Jorge envisioned. They already had several years of experience as winemakers employed by other producers but also wanted to create their own expression of the Douro.
"Our goal is wine creations that express the character of the traditional vineyards and grape varieties of the Douro Valley. Wines with a balance between concentration, complexity and elegance".
A white wine also followed shortly after the first Pintas. That one was named Guru.
The grapes for that wine came from a vineyard more than 50 years old and produced a full-bodied, spicy white wine.
With both Pintas and Guru, Sandra and Jorge quickly garnered a great deal of success internationally.
In 2009, Sandra and Jorge also acquired management of Quinta da Manoella, 20 hectares of vineyard in Vale do Pinhão.
These vineyards proved to be extremely complementary to Pintas. While Pintas produces mostly powerful wine, Manoella is the basis for pervasive elegance.
Thus, Sandra and Jorge create something for everyone, but each time in an engaging style, Wine & Soul.
