Capovolto 2023, Atlas Land
Region: Algarve
Producer: atlasland (Filippo Pozzi)
The grapes for these wines come from a vineyard planted in 1990 on a gentle north-facing slope. A field blend of mainly Castelão, Boal Branco and Boal Roxo on sandy soil, 3 Km from the ocean.Deeper texture and concentration with riper aromatics. It needed a slightly longer ageing to find its balance and at this moment benefits from decanting just before service

The same grapes as the Zig Zag — Castelão with Boal Branco and Boal Roxo — but harvested at the end of September and pressed as whole bunches, then aged partly in oak barrels and partly in steel. Pressing whole bunches means the stems push along, which pulls the juice out of the skins less harshly: less colour, less bitterness, more aroma. From a vineyard dating from 1990 on a gentle slope near the Atlantic coast. Capovolto means reversed, and that is what happens here: red grapes that become a white wine.

We came across Filippo Pozzi before he had even bottled his first wine and then waited patiently for more than 2 years. At last we have the first bottles of his delicious Atlas wines, from old vineyards in the coastal area of the Alentejo and Algarve.
