At this house Garrafeira means: the best barrel, and then waiting. Bical and Maria Gomes with skin contact in wooden barrels, where the wine stays for about a year after the fermentation until bottling. Nine years later this is a white wine with the structure of a red: grip from the skins, an oxidised, nutty layer from the old oak, and an acid line that is still completely there. Complexity twelve against weight twelve. This is not a wine to get to know at the aperitif.
Duck leg with red cabbage
Roast pigeon breast with cherries
Serveren op 13–15 °C
Frederico and his father Mario Sergio are the third and fourth generations of the Nuno family who make wine in the north of the Bairrada region. They make wines and espumantes that are very easily recognizable for their distinct character.
