Trudy, The True Ruby, Nat' Cool Series
Region: Nat' Cool
Producer: Niepoort
Why we chose this wine
Niepoort now also brings the 'glou glou factor' to port wine. This is as the bottle says 'True Ruby', Ruby port reduced to the essence of fruit fun and therefore drinking pleasure. As a result, like all other wines in the Nat' Cool range, this port must come in a liter bottle, because 75cl is too little.
Drink this port preferably chilled like a white wine.

Trudy is a play on the words 'true ruby'. Intended to be higher quality than the Ruby Dum. Old field-blend vineyards in the Mendiz Valley. RS 100 g/l.
Sample is very chilled so I may not be getting everything from it, especially the aroma. Rich blackberry fruit, ripe, spicy damson. Serious ruby port, a bit more like a very good LBV with its dark, savoury aftertaste. Big, smooth tannins and great freshness. GV

The producer
Niepoort
Dirk Niepoort's impact on the Portuguese wine landscape can hardly be overestimated. When he took over the helm from his father Rolf in 1990, as the 5th generation of the originally Dutch Van der Niepoort family, it was immediately clear that something was about to happen.
