Quinta da Vacariça Garrafeira 2009
Region: Bairrada
Producer: Quinta da Vacariça
François Chasans follows his own path, and we are happy to follow along. This distinctive Frenchman spent his entire career in the wine world—first as the wine manager for the renowned Maison Fauchon in Paris, and later as an independent wine merchant, also in Paris.
His wife hails from the Bairrada region; it was during a visit to the 1998 Expo in Portugal that he first encountered the local Baga grape. Immediately convinced of its immense potential, he decided to start making wine himself.
Today, he divides his time between Paris and Bairrada. After a quiet start and years of patient aging, François has recently begun releasing his wines to the public.
They are crafted in a decidedly traditional style that showcases the Baga grape in all its glory. Quinta de Vacariça thus delivers wines brimming with character and robust structure—perfectly at home alongside a fine cut of meat, and virtually ageless.
