A blend of two amphorae from Daniel's collection — one of eight hundred and one of nine hundred litres — and so literally not the same every year. Diagalves, Manteúdo and Antão Vaz, with the same sustained skin contact as its younger brother, but a year older and with complexity eleven: the highest of the talha range. The fruit has shifted towards dried apricot and the grip has grown softer. This is the bottle with which you show someone what talha does to a white wine.
Warm salad of octopus and chickpeas
Grilled pork neck with oregano
Serveren op 12–14 °C

They had not planned to make a second Mestre Daniel white but they realised Talha X was different and worth bottling separately. The fruit comes from a single 0.5-hectare vineyard that belonged to Mestre Daniel with sandy soil. A field blend of Antão Vaz, Diagalves, Perrum, Manteúdo, Trincadeira Branca and the variety they call the ‘Pocket Grape’ because it has such thick skins you could put it in your pocket without it being crushed. On skins until January/February after the harvest.
Very pale gold. More intense and cedary on the nose. Intense purity of citrus fruit. More tannic, a little bit smokier and chalkier than the blended talha white. The palate is all about structure and freshness, and there’s less open fruit on the palate. Grippy texture but not astringent. I can see why this was bottled separately.
