Poeira Vinha da Torre 2019
Region: From the treasure room
Producer: Jorge Moreira (Poeira)
Poeira Vinha da Torre comes from an old vineyard located in Covas do Douro that was planted in 1950. With a huge diversity of grape varieties, stony soil and very steep slopes, with northern sun exposure and at 400 m altitude.
In the nose an elegant and seductive wine. In the mouth the wine shows robust, but balanced and without loss of elegance. A wine with excellent acidity and minerality that lingers for a long time.

Jorge Moreira started Poeira in 2001 to write his own reading of the Douro, with the whole process in his hands. Vinha da Torre is its most outspoken bottle: a blend of old vines, sixteen months in oak. Complexity fourteen at a weight of thirteen — there is more to find in this wine than there is weight in it, and that is exactly what makes it interesting at the table.
Roast rack of veal with its juices

“The 2019 Vinha da Torre was produced with grapes from one plot with an unusual field blend—dominated by Touriga Franca, Baga, Tinta Bastardinha, Cornifesto and Rufete—that was planted in 1950 in the village of Covas do Douro on schist soils and looking north. It smells like the countryside, with a melange of wild flowers, herbs, berries and earth. It has a medium-bodied palate that is juicy and velvety, with fine tannins. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol and has a combination of power and finesse, with focused and pungent flavors in the finish. 2,600 bottles were filled in March 2022. It's evolving quite slowly.”
Jorge Moreira bought a small vineyard in 2001 that no one else was interested in. Against the grain, he made his Poeira there.
