The counterpart of his brother's Alvarinho: Tiago took Loureiro, the grape of the floral nose, and did with it exactly what nobody does with Loureiro — fermented it in 400-litre wooden barrels and then left it in them for six months. That combination is the whole reason this bottle exists: the bay-like, floral scent of the grape stays, but a creamy, almost nutty texture comes to sit beneath it. Six years in bottle has let all of that slide completely into place.

“The 2020 Loureiro de Tiago is a wine produced by Anselmo's son Tiago Mendes, with grapes from Quinta da Ferreira in Ponte de Lima. It fermented in used 400-liter barrels, where it matured for six months. It has a bright and pale yellow color and a very expressive nose, herbal and balsamic. 2020 was much better in the Lima region than in the Alvarinho zone of Monção e Melgaço. The wine has a medium-bodied palate and is still very young and lively. It has contained ripeness, 12% alcohol and very good freshness, with integrated oak. This is a very worthy addition to the portfolio. 1,700 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2021.”
We were there when Anselmo launched his first wines under his own name and we are still following him. Meanwhile, he grew to become 'mister Alvarinho'.
