Full bottle 1,337 g. Old-vine Trincadeira and Aragonez are harvested by hand. Low-intervention winemaking begins with foot treading. When spontaneous fermentation starts, it is pressed and the free-run juice continues fermentation in small stainless-steel tanks. Ageing in a stainless-steel tanks, bottled unfiltered. TA 5.2 g/l, pH 3.59.
Lightish red. Pure, gently stony, dark-red fruits. Enticing and charming without a suggestion of sweetness. All in stony purity. Even though the winemaking is hands-off, there is an impression of extreme precision here, a perfect balance between the pure fruit, light, super-fine yet sufficient tannins and fresh acidity. Mouth-watering and moreish with a surprising persistence. Thirst quenching and elegant at the same time – not a simple vin de soif. Likely to be GV.
Hamilton Reis planted his own vineyard by hand in 2008 in Vidigueira, deep in the Alentejo, and farms it fully organically. He ferments in the region's traditional amphorae, but without the skins, then ages the wine in large wooden casks.
