Morgadio Da Calçada Reserva Branco 2021
Region: Douro
Producer: Niepoort
The wine displays a very intense and deep mineral character. It is highly complex on the nose, with excellent toasty barrel notes and fine herbs perfectly integrated into a citrusy and slightly floral profile. On the palate, it shows great presence yet remains fine and delicate, with notes of white fruit and some spice. It is full-bodied without being heavy, showing good concentration and perfectly balanced oak. The finish is very complex, elegant, and slightly salty. A white wine to be best enjoyed in a Burgundy-style glass.

Waar serveer je ’m bij?
The reserve from the same high-lying Provezende, but with a completely different cellar: the grapes are lightly pressed, the must settles for twenty-four hours, and the wine then ferments in used French barrels of 228 litres — followed by ten months in oak. Fermenting in barrel rather than in steel gives a creamier, broader mouth and an integrated oak note instead of a layer laid on top. Rabigato and Codega de Larinha, weight eleven: one of the broadest white Douros in our range.

Dirk Niepoort's impact on the Portuguese wine landscape can hardly be overestimated. When he took over the helm from his father Rolf in 1990, as the 5th generation of the originally Dutch Van der Niepoort family, it was immediately clear that something was about to happen.
