Wine & Soul began in 2001 as the life's work of Sandra Tavares da Silva and Jorge Serôdio Borges, both winemakers and newly married at the time. They were determined to make top-level wine and gained international recognition almost immediately.

Pintas: their own expression of the Douro
Sandra and Jorge had years of experience as winemakers for other producers, but wanted to create their own expression of the Douro. They made their first red, Pintas, from grapes from a now hundred-year-old vineyard in the Pinhão valley, in Vale de Mendiz.
With its southern exposure, the plot is ideally placed for the powerful, intense style they had in mind.

Guru, the white
Shortly after the first Pintas came a white wine: Guru. The grapes come from a vineyard over fifty years old and give a full, spicy white.
With both Pintas and Guru, Sandra and Jorge quickly found great international success.
Harvesting on terraces
The Douro is one of the oldest demarcated wine regions in the world. On the steep schist terraces, everything was done by hand until well into the 20th century. Porters carried the baskets of grapes down the terraces on their backs.
On the steepest plots, the harvest is still done by hand today.

Power and elegance
Quinta da Manoella
In 2009 Sandra and Jorge also took over the management of Quinta da Manoella, 20 hectares of vineyard in the Pinhão valley. These vineyards proved highly complementary to Pintas: where Pintas yields above all powerful wine, Manoella is the basis for refined elegance.
So Sandra and Jorge make something for everyone, but always in an engaging style.
