Quinta do Mouro 2020

Producer: Quinta do Mouro
It is a wine of great aromatic complexity. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with good structure, an excellent balance of very pure fruit and more vegetal notes, and above all very fresh, something hardly found in Alentejo.

Miguel Louro released his first Quinta do Mouro in 1994 and still makes this wine in his spare time. The grapes are foot-trodden and macerate in open vats, after which fermentation finishes in closed steel. Twelve to eighteen months on a mix of Portuguese and French oak. Aragonez for the core, Alicante Bouschet for the colour and the firm edge: balance in a region not automatically known for it.

“The eponymous red 2020 Quinta do Mouro has a serious profile with notes of ripe berries, flowers, spices and herbs. It has integrated oak, a medium- to full-bodied palate and noticeable tannins; it is balanced and harmonious, still quite young and evolving at a slow pace. It comes in at 14% alcohol, with a pH 3.47 and six grams of acidity. It matured for 14 months in 300-liter Portuguese oak barrels, 50% of them new. It should age nicely. 18,900 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2023.”
Miguel Louro bought the historic Quinta do Mouro near Estremoz in 1979. At the time there was no winegrowing there (any more).
