Beiorte (João Costa)
João Costa is a local man who grew up with wine. Since 2020 he has managed a very old 1.2 ha vineyard, making red Dão just the way we like it: elegant and full of character.
Beiorte (João Costa) is available in Belgium from The Portugal Collection. We import the wines directly and deliver throughout Belgium.
We found João through a tip from Luis Gil, the man behind the fantastic Marinho wines. When he gives us a tip, there is hardly any need to taste: Luis only brings us the very best.
We are extremely taken with João's project.
In the Dão, new projects by young people from the region are very rare. When there is investment in new wine estates, it usually comes from outside.
Yet local knowledge is an asset not to be underestimated.
The Dão is a wonderful region, but by no means easy to fathom. The special places for making wine are well hidden, and the region's climate also takes experience to judge correctly.
