3 Rios 2024
Region: Vinho Verde
Producer: Anselmo Mendes
Melgaço has always been recognised as one of the best places to produce Alvarinho, but very few quality estates were still active.
Anselmo played an important role in the rebirth of the region and is now recognised as one of Portugal's leading white wine producers.
The Alvarinho grape variety plays the main role here, but Anselmo also values other local varieties such as Loureiro, Avesso and Vinhão. Its wines are distinguished by their freshness and minerality. The granitic soils, the proximity of the ocean and its location in the north of Portugal play a decisive role.
The Vinho Verde is criss-crossed by 3 large rivers that flow towards the ocean. The banks of each stream are planted with vines and each valley has its dominant grape variety. Avesso dominates the last part of the Douro, Loureiro dominates the Lima valley and Alvarinho dominates the Minho.
In 3 Rios the grapes from each valley are used to create a very tasty and refreshing Vinho Verde.
The attack is lively and salty, a mid-palate of fruit and green apple and a finish of freshness and minerality.

Waar serveer je ’m bij?
Three rivers, three grapes: Alvarinho, Loureiro and Avesso, each from a different corner of the Vinho Verde. All in steel, nothing in oak, and an acid line that is among the highest in our entire white range. Those three varieties together do what none of them can do alone — Alvarinho gives the core, Loureiro gives the floral scent, Avesso gives the volume. It is Anselmo Mendes's entry-level wine that is by now catching up with his own bestseller, and at the table it is above all one thing: a knife that cuts through fat.
Deep-fried anchovies with lemon

We were there when Anselmo launched his first wines under his own name and we are still following him. Meanwhile, he grew to become 'mister Alvarinho'.
