Quinta da Murta branco 2023
Region: Lisboa
Producer: Quinta da Murta
Bucelas was for a long time the only region in Portugal to produce white wines. "The Wine Of Shakespeare" is a nod to history. In the 16th century, Bucelas wine was very popular at the royal court of England, a wine called "Charneco" (the name of a town near Bucelas) is mentioned in Shakespeare's play Henry Six, written in 1594.
The vines are planted on limestone, fossils and marl, on south/south-east facing slopes at an altitude of 250 metres.
Exuberant and fresh nose with notes of lemon, lime, apple, tropical fruits and a floral and mineral background. The palate is well balanced, creamy and crispy. The finish is long and persistent.

Bucelas is the appellation of Arinto, and Franck Bodin — a French engineer who changed course and became a winemaker — makes the most straight-lined version of it. Short skin contact, gentle pressing, cool fermentation with indigenous yeasts, all in steel. Then four to six months on the lees with stirring, which gives just enough texture to keep it from feeling lean. What you get is citrus, white blossom and an acidity that ranks among the highest in our range: this is the wine you open when something deep-fried comes to the table.

French native Franck Bodin took over the vineyards of Quinta da Murta in 2011, releasing a beautiful estate in a historic area just on the northern border of Lisboa. It is said to be birthplace of the wonderfully fresh Arinto grape.
