The classic Alvarinho from the house that made the grape's name in Melgaço: richness and freshness in one glass, and more complex than the price suggests. All in steel, so nothing that masks the grape — peach, mandarin peel, a salty minerality. The thing you need to know: it is hard to resist in its youth, but after some five years in bottle it becomes considerably better, with a waxy, broader mouth. So if you buy two, best drink one now and put the other away.

Full bottle 1,133 g. Hand-picked. The wine ferments in stainless-steel tanks and ages in contact with the fine lees before bottling. TA 6.7 g/l, pH 3.1. Sustainable Winegrowing Portugal and vegan.
Very pale with a hint of green in the colour. Intense aroma of fresh pears, creamy lees layers and vibrant green fruits. Nicely dry, slightly chewy and appetisingly fresh. Pure Alvarinho with a slightly salty finish. Very good intensity and persistence at this modest level of alcohol. Benchmark for the region and variety. Flavour and texture work well together. A classic.

In 1982, the Cerdeira family was the first to rejoin the tradition of quality wines based on the local Alvarinho grape. João Antonio Cerdeira planted the first vines to that end in 1974, and it is those old vines that still provide the grapes for the top cuvée 'Primeiras Vinhas' today.
