Rui Reguinga

Rui Reguinga was born into a family of winemakers and absolutely wanted to follow in their footsteps. He graduated as an oenologist in the late 1980s and immediately made his first wines in Alentejo. He quickly grew into a respected oenologist.

Today, Rui makes wines for numerous clients in various Portuguese regions. In 2004, he bought himself a vineyard and emerged as so much more than the highly skilled oenologist everyone saw in him.
While as an oenologist he makes the wines his clients demand of him, his own vineyard allows him complete freedom, unencumbered by the straitjacket within which he must move when working on commission.
What makes Rui interesting is that he started from a solid education (which cannot always be said of the new generation of natural winemakers), but dares to trust nature. He by no means clings to modern winemaking techniques. This allows the special, old vineyards he works with to express themselves fully in his wine.
The Alentejo is known as a hot region, and even 100 years ago
a native of the cooler north of Portugal had already understood that to plant a vineyard it was therefore best to seek the coolness of the mountains. That way he could avoid his grapes  ripening too quickly and having high alcohol levels in his wine.

Rui managed to acquire this unique plot, at 700m altitude in the pristine environment of a natural park, and makes his Terrenus there on a very small scale (a few thousand bottles).
More than 10 different grape varieties are there, white and red, all planted crisscross and in gobelet, so not nicely aligned and led along wires.
