Pourquoi nous avons choisi ce vin
António Maia Ferreira Faria a été l'un des producteurs de Bairrada les plus emblématiques des années 90. Des vins tels que le Tonel 5 1990 ou le Reserva 1991 resteront à jamais gravés dans l'histoire du vin de Bairrada. C'est un grand privilège pour Dirk Niepoort, qui distribuait ces vins, de travailler avec ces magnifiques vignobles. Année après année, nous cherchons à produire des vins intemporels avec de la profondeur et du caractère qui rendent hommage à feu António Maia Ferreira Faria et à son fils João Pedro qui est maintenant en charge du travail dans ces vignobles.
Ondanks zijn jeugd toont de wijn al een indrukwekkend evenwicht en fijne tannines die harmoniëren met de tonen van vers fruit. In combinatie met een ongelooflijke structuur en kracht zorgen het levendige fruit en de uitstekende zuurgraad voor een delicate, elegante en uitzonderlijk fijne wijn. De afdronk is verfrissend, zilt en geeft duidelijk uitdrukking aan het kalkrijke terroir van de wijn. Deze wijn drinkt heerlijk als hij jong is en zijn harmonie toont, maar hij belooft ook een groot rijpingspotentieel.

| Vinification | Le vin a fermenté dans des lagares ouverts pendant 4 semaines avant de terminer sa fermentation dans de grandes cuves usagées de 2500 litres. Dans ces mêmes cuves, le vin a subi une fermentation malolactique et une période de maturation de 20 mois avant d'être mis en bouteille sans être filtré. |

Waar serveer je ’m bij?
Quatre semaines de fermentation en lagares ouverts, puis vingt mois en fûts usagés de 2500 litres, mise en bouteille sans filtration. Cette longue macération donne à ce vin son tanin ferme et à grain fin — pour onze degrés d'alcool seulement, ce qui le garde étonnamment léger sur la langue. Dirk Niepoort le réalise avec le fils d'António Faria, dans le style qui a fait la réputation de celui-ci en Bairrada dans les années nonante.

“The 2016 Gonçalves Faria Tinto is from a single plot from the Gonçalvez Faria that was replanted in the 1980s and planted with 100% Baga (not the old field blend of the old vines) on clay soils, because the limestone is quite deep down. It has the profile of Cantanhede, with a more rustic tannin, but a wine that will age with elegance. This fermented in stainless steel with 100% destemmed grapes and matured in a single Austrian oak vat. It has only 11% alcohol from a balanced year with more freshness but little problems with rain, a very easy year of healthy grapes and one of the most balanced years they have produced, together with 2021, years of more freshness. The wine has a medium body and medium concentration, with an ethereal quality to it and very fine tannins, and it has acidity. They tend to harvest quite early, and the wines tend to age very well. This is developing quite slowly in bottle. This wine was produced in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 and then stopped and resumed in 2021. In 2016, they did 3,391 bottles.”
