Vinho Chinado

João Tereso had no plans to make wine ... until he learned in 2016 that his grandfather's old vineyard was in danger of being lost. Then he decided to intervene and now he makes his own wine on a very small scale under the label Chinado.

The vineyards João uses are in the coastal area near the city of Alcobaça where Cistercian monks had started a fine tradition of winemaking centuries ago. That tradition was unfortunately lost because in the early 19th century the order was dissolved and the
vineyards had to deal with diseases such as phylloxera in the following decades.
Hopefully João's project will help revive the region. His wines, made naturally, are already a great example of what is possible.
